I’M ONLY HALF-THE-HEART!

This morning I couldn’t seem to wake up fast enough. I love holidays that represent giving love away!

Looking at the clock I realized that my husband probably wanted to sleep a few more hours, but I had to reach over and whisper, “Happy Valentine’s Day honey. I love you.”  He motioned that he was awake and said, “I love you too sweetheart!”  The moment he said, “sweetheart” I giggled. What woman doesn’t love being called “sweetheart.”

I then asked, “Would you like a cup of coffee?”

“Well, I could use a few more hours of sleep, but I can tell that sleep is not going to happen, so ‘yes’ I would love a cup of coffee. Thank you.”

I got up, prepared our coffee and brought it back to bed. We both sat up and I asked, “You know how much love you, right?”

And then he said something that made me think…

“Well, you know that you’re only half-of-the-heart of our relationship. I’m the other half, so ‘yes’ I know how much you love me. I love you that much too, and that’s what makes our relationship whole!”

What a beautiful way to look at a relationship. He was right. When two people love each other two people have to give their heart away to make the relationship whole. Relationships don’t happen when only one person decides that they want to be in it. It has to be mutually agreed upon.

For the past several hours I’ve been thinking about  what he said,  and a few moments ago God showed me a beautiful illustration of what Ephesians 3: 14-21 is saying…

14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

 20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

When I finished reading I realized why it was important for each person to have a  personal relationship with Christ before one can invite him into our hearts. Christ is all about love, and unless we know how to give love, we don’t know how to receive it!

And… I now understand why some people feel alone, even when they are in a relationship. I’ve been there myself. Once we give our whole heart away it’s important that we make sure the person we are giving it to is willing to give their whole heart back.

And the beautiful thing about Jesus is…   Jesus gave his life for each of us, and he did it willingly— giving his WHOLE HEART!

He loves each of us that much!

If anyone reads my heart today and feels alone on Valentine’s Day, just know that Jesus LOVES YOU THAT MUCH, and all He wants to know is that you LOVE HIM THAT MUCH TOO.

  1. That is a special reminder for everyone—Maybe someone needed to hear that today. I know I like hearing it everyday.
