Yesterday I went and spent the day with the man I now call, Post Office.   Post Office, and I met at the Post Office, and for some reason the name fits him. I believe the reason God introduced us is because God wanted me to give him a message, and not all messages come written on pieces of paper and are delivered to our mailboxes.  Some come straight from the hearts of others.

Now, back to yesterday….

Post Office had a meeting that he was to attend and wanted to know if I would go with him. When my heart prompted me to say, “yes” I went. I had no idea where the meeting was going to be, and was surprised when we pulled into the office of John Lowry.

Who is John Lowry?

Until I met Post Office, I had no idea who he was, but now I will never forget him. John Lowry, who was a celebrated film-restoration specialist, and worked on such films as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Gone with the Wind, Titanic, and hundreds of other movies, was going to be honored next month by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, but he passed away last week.  Post Office happened to be working for him, and now his life has changed too.

It’s hard when life changes so abruptly, and that is why I spent the day with him. I could tell he needed a friend, and when we were driving home I asked him if he believed in God. He quickly replied that he wasn’t sure, and then I asked, “Well, have you ever prayed for anything specific?”

Without missing a beat he said, “Interesting you would ask that because I was praying for a friend this week!”

I had to smile. He had prayed for a friend, but couldn’t see that God had brought him one. I just met him less than 48 hours before and already God was asking me to take the day off from my work, to help him with his. Only friends do that! I hit him on the shoulder and said, “Hey, I’m only here because God asked me to be. Now, do you believe in God?”

He looked over at me and shook his head, “no!”

“Well then do me a favor. Don’t ask God for something if  you’re not going to “Thank Him” for giving it to you, because with every prayer that is answered… someone has to give something in return.”

At that moment I looked out the car window and I completely understood the Cross! And, I have to smile. Post Office wasn’t the only one God was sending a message to.

14 So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father.

15 John pointed him out to the people. He shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before I did.'”

16 We have all benefited from the rich blessings he brought to us— one gracious blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses; God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. But his only Son, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart; he has told us about him. John 1: 14-17

  1. Gina, You have been given a great gift of insight. I suppose that comes to all of us who expectantly look to know God, who seek Him out, who look for His movement through His creation. For us, what we see through our spiritual eyes is so real, so obvious. To those who do not believe, it is so cloaked as to be invisible. God will tear off some of those cloaks through what you write. Fight this good fight!
